The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has collaborated with Lamu on a Sh20 million project for rural electrification, with the aim of providing sustainable energy solutions for rural areas. 

With a focus on stimulating economic activities such as fishing, horticulture, dairy farming, and crop cultivation, this collaboration aims to bring sustainable energy solutions to Lamu. 

REREC’s strategy aligns with the government’s aim to achieve universal electricity access by 2028, surpassing the Sustainable Development Goal 7 target by two years.

The project aims to connect institutions and households to electricity, boosting security and socio-economic activity in the area, and ultimately enhancing community infrastructure and quality of life.

The electrification of schools in Lamu is anticipated to revolutionize education, offering access to modern teaching aids like computers and the internet, thus elevating educational standards and student performance.

Health facilities in Lamu are poised to see a significant improvement in healthcare services due to the rural electrification project.

Electricity access will facilitate the use of medical equipment, refrigeration for vaccines and medications, and provide essential lighting for nighttime emergencies.

Furthermore, rural electrification will yield positive outcomes for religious institutions and administrative centers in Lamu. 

It will bolster security measures, enable the utilization of contemporary communication technologies, and enhance the overall working conditions.

The rural electrification initiative in Lamu is poised to enhance living standards by providing access to electricity.
