AMEA Power recently achieved a major milestone in Egypt’s renewable energy sector by completing the installation of solar panels at its 500-MW Abydos solar park in Aswan.
Now connected to the national grid through a 220-kV substation, this large-scale project marks an important step in Egypt’s efforts to expand clean energy.
With one million solar panels in place, the Abydos solar park is expected to generate about 1,500 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity each year.
This is enough to power over 256,000 homes and prevent around 783,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The energy generated at the Abydos park will be sold to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
This ensures stable revenue for the project and aligns with Egypt’s goals to boost its share of renewable energy and reduce its dependency on fossil fuels, which have long been the country’s primary energy source.
With its abundant sunlight, Egypt is an ideal location for solar projects like Abydos. The initiative is part of a broader plan to make Egypt a leader in renewable energy within Africa.
The success of Abydos showcases AMEA Power’s expertise and reflects a growing interest across the region in sustainable energy solutions.
The environmental impact of Abydos is significant. By reducing over 783,300 tons of CO₂ emissions each year, this project contributes to cleaner air and helps Egypt meet its international climate commitments.
As climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue, projects like these are vital in reducing greenhouse gas emissions linked to electricity generation.
