Based on recent updates in Kenya (as of June 13, 2024), Kenya Power is rolling out a program to update the software on prepaid meter tokens. Here’s how to upgrade your meter token:
The Process:
Receive the Codes: You’ll receive two separate 20-digit codes from Kenya Power via SMS. Here is the reset and update code.
Key in the Codes: Enter the code sequentially into your prepaid meter by following the instructions provided in the SMS. It’s crucial to enter the codes in the correct order – reset code first, followed by the update code.
Confirmation: Once you’ve entered both codes correctly, your meter will likely display a confirmation message indicating a successful software update.
Important Points:
Don’t Lose Existing Tokens: Ensure you’ve already loaded any previously purchased tokens into your meter before entering the update code. The update won’t affect existing tokens, but unused tokens after the update won’t be usable if not loaded beforehand.
Free Update: This meter token update program is entirely free of charge.
Not Everyone at Once: The update is being rolled out progressively. If you haven’t received the code yet, don’t worry. Kenya Power will eventually send them to you. You can continue using your meter with existing tokens until then.
